# AXO (agent experience optimization)

> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://workpods.ai/llms.txt)

WorkPods is an AXO (agent experience optimization) and [GEO](https://workpods.ai/geo) agency, with [technical SEO](https://workpods.ai/seo) underneath, for enterprise and upper mid-market teams. AXO matters because a buyer can now send an AI agent to read your site, check your pricing and book a demo, and an agent that hits a blank page or an unlabelled form moves on to the next vendor.

## Make your site readable, operable, callable and observed

AXO prepares your website and products so AI agents can read your pages, finish tasks, call your tools and show up in your logs. Marketing shares the work with the web team, because a failed agent visit can cost a shortlist place or a demo request.

SEO helps crawlers index your pages, and GEO gets your brand named in AI answers. AXO adds four layers, and for online stores [ACO (agentic commerce optimization)](https://workpods.ai/aco) builds on them:

- Readable: llms.txt (a short file listing key pages), Markdown pages, robots.txt and Content-Signal rules, structured data (page labels for machines) and HTML without JavaScript.
- Operable: clear form labels and WebMCP markup, an emerging standard letting a page declare tools for browser agents.
- Callable: an MCP server (an open protocol with an official registry) or app in four directories.
- Observed: verified agent visits in server logs, since Google Analytics 4 (GA4) misses bots skipping JavaScript.

Our [SEO vs GEO vs AXO vs ACO comparison](https://workpods.ai/compare/seo-vs-geo-vs-axo-vs-aco) sets all four side by side, with the dates that show how search got here.

## Fix where agents stall in your funnel

Agents can stall at five points in the buying journey, usually where product facts or forms assume a person is using a browser. Each fix has an owner, so the work splits across content, web, product marketing and marketing ops.

| Funnel stage | What an agent does there | What typically stops it | Who owns the fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research | Reads guides, product pages and llms.txt | Rules in robots.txt blocking bots, or JavaScript-only copy | Content and web |
| Shortlist | Compares features, security facts and structured data | Missing or conflicting labels and vague claims | Product marketing and content |
| Pricing | Checks plan tiers and unit rules | Pricing tables rendered by scripts or toggles | Product marketing and web |
| Demo or trial | Fills out forms on [agent-ready websites](https://workpods.ai/axo/agent-ready-websites) | Unlabelled inputs and controls lacking WebMCP markup | Web and marketing ops |
| Purchase or contact | Calls an app or reads product feeds | No directory listing, or mismatched feed prices | Product marketing, web and ops |

Say a buyer asks an assistant to shortlist three vendors and book demos. If your pricing needs JavaScript or your demo form has no labels, the agent books two rivals and skips you.

## Ask your web team five questions this week

Five questions to your web team will surface your main agent blockers this week. The answers tell you whether AI tools can read your pitch and finish buyer tasks, before you fund any new build.

1. When JavaScript is off, does the text of our homepage, product pages and pricing page appear in HTML?
2. Does robots.txt set rules for AI crawlers and Content-Signal, or block AI tools by default?
3. Do we publish llms.txt and Markdown versions of key pages so AI tools find product facts?
4. Do our demo, trial and contact forms have clear field labels that a browser agent can read?
5. Are we reading Cloudflare, Vercel, nginx or Apache logs to see verified agent visits that GA4 misses?

A "no" or "not sure" on any of these is a good place to start. Our free Chrome extension, [Agent Ready](https://workpods.ai/tools/agent-ready), answers the first four for any page you open.

## How we measure it

We measure AXO before and after each fix, across your site files, key tasks, directory listings and logs. Every result has a named status, so your team can see what works and exactly where an agent stops.

- Each AXO check is scored Pass, Partial, Fail or Not applicable. A missing optional file like llms.txt is Not applicable, never a fail, and only a present, broken file gets Fail.
- We test 3 to 5 key tasks from your money pages confirmed by your team: find pricing, book a demo, find a contact. Each task ends Completed, Reached the confirmation step, Partial or Blocked, with the step where it stopped.
- We mark your brand and up to five rivals Listed or Not listed across the MCP Registry, Claude connectors, ChatGPT apps and Google connected apps.
- Each log visit is Verified inside published IP ranges, Mismatch outside them, or Unverified without published ranges.

Our test agent never submits a form or buys anything, and we never store visitor IPs. We do not claim to measure how often ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini pick your app. For enterprise teams in the US, India and the UAE, the first step is a [free GEO and AXO audit](https://workpods.ai/free-audit).

## Questions buyers ask

### What is AXO in marketing?

AXO (agent experience optimization) is the work of making your website, forms and product surfaces usable by AI agents acting for a buyer. SEO helps search crawlers rank your pages, and GEO gets your brand named in AI answers. AXO makes sure an assistant can read your pricing in the HTML, complete your demo form and find your app in agent directories.

### Does AXO replace SEO or GEO?

No. Each one covers a different stage of how buyers find you. Technical SEO builds the crawlable HTML and structured data that search indexes rely on. GEO earns citations across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. AXO then lets agents finish tasks on your site, so the three work together.

### Do we need every AXO layer right now?

No. We suggest starting with the Readable and Operable basics instead of funding every layer at once. Serving core copy in HTML without JavaScript and fixing demo form labels removes two drop-offs that stop agents early. A Callable MCP server is worth scoping only when buyers want live data, quotes or bookings inside an AI chat.

### How do you test our forms without creating fake leads?

We test 3 to 5 tasks your team confirms from your money pages, using a browser agent that never submits a form or buys anything. Each task is scored Completed, Reached the confirmation step, Partial or Blocked, with the step where it stopped. Operators use that step to find missing form labels, and your CRM gets no fake leads.

### Can we measure AI agent visits in Google Analytics 4?

No. GA4 depends on JavaScript tags in the browser, and AI fetchers do not run them, so those visits never reach it. WorkPods reads your Cloudflare, Vercel, nginx or Apache logs instead and marks each bot visit Verified, Mismatch or Unverified against published IP ranges. We never store visitor IP addresses, only daily totals and cleaned batches kept for 14 days.

### Do you guarantee more agent traffic or app picks?

No. WorkPods never guarantees rankings, citations, app picks or agent traffic. Closed platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini do not publish logs of how often they pick a connected app. What we can show is your pages, files and tasks checked before and after each fix, so you can see every Pass and every Completed task on your own domain.
