# Local SEO: audit any Google Business Profile

Local SEO is a free Chrome extension that audits a Google Business Profile against 39 checks and shows where the business ranks in Google Maps. It runs in your browser and sends nothing to WorkPods.

## What the audit covers

Every check passes, fails or is marked not tested, always with the reason, and every failure has a severity.

- **The profile** Basics, categories, description, attributes and photos.
- **Activity** Reviews, owner replies and posts.
- **Website and trust** Whether the site matches the profile, and signs like keyword stuffing or duplicate listings.
- **Hidden details** Secondary categories, the place ID, CID and a review link, each one click to copy.

## Local scan

Type a search such as "dentist austin tx" and the panel lists every business in it with its rating, review count and distance.

## Rankings

A grid of up to 5 by 5 points runs free in your browser. With your own DataForSEO key it goes up to 13 by 13.

## Reviews

With your own DataForSEO key it reads the full review and post history, beyond what Maps shows on the page.

## Coding agents

Add the server to Claude Code, then turn on **Agent connection** in the extension and enter the code that `npx -y @workpods/local-seo pair` prints:

## Also in the panel

- **Website** Checks the business's own site for its name, address and phone, LocalBusiness schema, click-to-call, hours and a map.
- **AI answers** Asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode what a local buyer asks, and shows which businesses each one names.
- **Drafts** With your own model key, drafts a description, posts and review replies for you to edit.

## Free and private

- **Free** The audit, local scans, rankings up to 5 by 5 and review analysis.
- **Your keys, your bill** Paid data uses your own keys, encrypted on your device, under a monthly cap you set.
- **No tracking** No WorkPods server, no account and no analytics.

## Questions buyers ask

### Do I need to own the business?

No. Local SEO reads what Google Maps shows you, so you can audit any business you can open in Maps, including competitors.

### Why do I see only a few reviews?

Signed out of Google, Maps shows a limited view with about five reviews and no posts. Sign in to any Google account in the same browser and audit again.

### Does it work in other languages?

Not yet. It reads Google Maps in English, and offers to reopen a page in English when it isn't.

### Is Local SEO made by Google?

No. It's an independent tool made by WorkPods, not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.

### Are the businesses in the screenshots real?

No. The screenshots use the extension's demo mode, so the names, addresses and reviews are invented.
